Developer Pledge now known as The Developer Remediation Contract

  • As of 14 October 2024, 54 developers have signed (up from the original 49) have signed the Building Safety Repairs Pledge also known the Developer Remediation Contract, committing to remediate life-critical fire safety defects in buildings 11m+ that they developed or refurbished over the past 30 years (thetimes.co.uk, gov.uk).

  • The initial pledge has been formalised into a legally binding Remediation Contract (signed by early 2023), requiring developers to:
    • Fund remediation and reimburse taxpayers for any public funds used.
    • Update residents and government on progress.
    • Abide by an enforcement framework, including registration in the Responsible Actors Scheme (developers failing compliance face restrictions on future building control approvals) (gov.uk).

Why This Matters for Leaseholders

  • Homes between 11–18m now have a clear remediation path: through developer contracts and, if needed, the cladding safety scheme.
  • Developers are legally obliged and enforceable – with no cost falling on leaseholders or taxpayers.

🔍 For Leaseholders, Tenants & Responsible Entities

  • Leaseholders in eligible buildings should verify if their developer is on the pledged list.
